Review Policy
Recently, I have been getting more and more emails about reviewing books. I thought that I should probably sit down and lay out some guidelines, a sort of review policy, if you will. So here goes:
First, please keep in mind that there are just some types of books out there that I have little to no interest in whatsoever. Those include, but are not limited to:
- Self-Help books and/or relationship advice books (I am almost guaranteed to turn these down)
- Sports related books (Although I enjoy sports, I am not fond of reading about it)
- Fantasy
Now, on to what I do enjoy:
- Any type of mystery/thriller/suspense/horror.
- History and/or historical fiction
- I was a history major in college. I prefer US history with an emphasis on the Civil War and the Civil Rights eras. I do enjoy some European history.
- Biographies/Autobiographies
- True Crime
- Some paranormal
- I need to state that it has to be “light” paranormal. I don’t really know how to describe what I mean. Take Charlaine Harris: I love the Harper Connelly books, but not the Sookie books if that helps any.
- Young Adult
Okay, now that you have some sort of an idea about what I enjoy or don’t enjoy, I’ll move on.
- First, I need to state that if I read your book, I will review it. If I don’t like it, I like to try my hardest to point out the good parts of the book because I hate completely negative reviews. Just because I didn’t like a certain book doesn’t mean that someone else will as well and I don’t want to deter any readers based on one opinion.
- Sometimes it takes me a little bit to get around to reading certain books. I do have a life outside of my blog and I have a lot of books on a wait list at my library, and if I get one in, those almost always trump anything at home. If you have certain time restraints that you need the book read and reviewed in please let me know when you contact me so that I can plan accordingly.
- I am always uncertain about what to do with review books once I am finished with them. (I never like to put them on credit-based swap sites because I do not feel like they are really mine to use in that manner). I like to pass them on to other readers so I would be more than happy to do giveaways on my blog. I will always ask the person who has furnished me with the book if a giveaway is alright.
